SCG2 / Secretogranin II Protein Description

SCG2, also known as secretogranin II, is a member of the chromogranin/secretogranin family. SCG2 is widely distributed in nervous and endocrine tissues, and abundant in neuroendocrine granules. SCG2 is involved in the packaging or sorting of peptide hormones and neuropeptides into secretory vesicles. The full-length protein is cleaved to produce the active peptide secretoneurin, which exerts chemotaxic effects on specific cell types, and EM66, whose function is unknown. SCG2 is a key AP-1-regulated protein that counteracts NO toxicity and mediates neuronal differentiation of neuroblastoma cells.
